A study by the United States Southern Command estimates that, during the Colombia’s guerrilla history, the FARC bought approximately 60,000 weapons. That figure is slightly higher than the 50,000 that the public force has received and seized in recent years, which includes 7,000 recently surrendered by the FARC. The UN officials who received and stockpiled the weapons have shown surprise because most rifles are American made AR15 instead of Russian AK47. Another interesting number is 500,000 kilos of ammunition discovered in the hideouts or “caletas,” which are going to be melted to build sculptures to symbolize the peace agreement.
