The Trump-McConnell alliance is the biggest obstacle for Democrats in Congress working for the majorities

In recent weeks, perceptions of wrongdoing are increasing with regards to how Trump and his administration acted in the case relating to Ukraine, which the House of Representatives is investigating as a step towards “impeachment” for the political trial. At the same time, it is evident that Trump has not been able to capitalize on his popularity on the country’s economic situation that, despite the crisis in its way after the tax break and trade wars without plan or rationality, remains stable and with positive indicators.

In an attempt to disqualify the work of the Democratic majority House of Representatives, Trump tirelessly repeats that the Democrats in Congress, “dedicated to the impeachment,” have not accomplished anything since they assumed the majority early this year. Truth be told, they have done a lot. Furthermore, the person responsible for turning the legislative branch into a cemetery of law projects critical for the majority of the population is senator Mitch McConnell, abusing his power as leader of the Republican majority.

Since the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives, the House has approved 400 laws and resolutions, focused on sensitive priorities such as: raising the minimum wage, controlling and regulating the possession of firearms, gender pay equality, civil rights for the LGBTQ community, protecting and opening a path to citizenship for young DREAMers, prohibiting the separation of families seeking asylum at the border, laws to reverse the effects of climate change and protect the environment, benefits for veteran military, strengthening NATO and others laws of a military nature aimed at withdrawing troops in international hostilities not authorized by Congress, protecting consumers and users from financial services, protecting against cyber terrorism and temporary protective status for Venezuelans.

All of these projects have been boycotted by McConnell, who, in the same abusive fashion when Obama postulated judge Merrick Garland to fill Justice Scalia’s vacant in the Supreme Court, would not even let the proposals into the Senate’s agenda. Reasonably, I ponder, if they have the majority in the Senate to vote against these laws, why are they against discussing them? Anyone would think that McConnell, in a sectarian and partisan line, does not want to risk the debate of these aspirations of the citizen majority becoming victories of public opinion for the Democrats; and who knows if even in plot rocks that fragment their majority of senators according to the states they represent. But there is something else; the Trump and McConnell party is at the service of the interests and power of its financiers. There is no doubt about this.

The power of money has co-opted a part of the Senate. That much must be stated clearly. And we refer to only part of the Senate because if these projects were to be discussed, they might end up in complex and even necessary political, legislative and technical negotiations, which could have an impact on the improvement of the projects prior to their approval because the influence of money is a lot but has not obnubilated all senators. But they do not want to risk or expose themselves to the integrity of those who would be willing to mark distance from the Trump-McConnell agenda, regardless of the commitments assumed by them with the interests of their financiers, be they large corporations or the marriage between them and the religious sectors more conservative, who have kidnapped the once Abraham Lincoln party.
